Let us do these activities before we read. (Page 52)
1. Read the following sentences.
(a) I wish my friend brings idli in her tiffin tomorrow.
(b) I hope my friend and I win the race tomorrow.
(c) May my friend get well soon.
Which of the three sentences (a)-(c) is closest to a prayer? Explain to your teacher and classmates.
Answer: Sentence (c) (Explanation: A prayer is usually a request or hope for something good, often directed to a higher power or with a sense of deep wishfulness. Sentence (c) expresses a heartfelt hope for the well-being of a friend, asking for them to recover soon, which is similar to a prayer. The words “May my friend…” make it sound like a request for something out of our control, which is common in prayers.)
2. What would you pray for your friend? First speak about it and then write it down.
Answer: Do yourself. You can start by speaking about what your friend needs or what you hope for them. For example, you might say:
Speaking:
“I would pray for my friend to always be happy and healthy. I want them to do well in school and feel confident. I also wish that they can overcome any challenges and stay strong.”
Writing it down:

The Beginning of Our Friendship
My friendship with Sarah started last year when we met in the school library. It was during recess, and we were both looking for the same book! We started talking about our favourite stories, and that’s when we realized we had a lot in common. We decided to sit together during lunch, and from that day, we’ve been best friends. We always help each other with homework and enjoy spending time together at school and outside. Our friendship has grown stronger since then.
