8. What were the hermit’s answers to the three questions? Write each answer separately. Which answers do you like the most and why?

Ans. The most important time, the hermit said, is our present because it is the only moment when we have the power to act. The most important person at a moment is we ourselves because the future is unknown and we don’t know whether we will meet anyone in the future or not.

So, we should listen to ourselves. The most important business is to be kind and good to others because we have been sent in this world to serve this noble cause.

I liked the third answer the most because helping someone in need is like serving God. It makes us a good person and brings a sense of satisfaction and contentment.

1. Imagine you are the king. Narrate the incident of your meeting with the hermit. Begin like this:

The wise men answered my questions, but I was not satisfied with their answers. One day I decided to go and meet the hermit….

Ans. The wise men answered my questions, but I was not satisfied with their answers. One day I decided to go and meet the hermit. Knowing that the hermit only aided commoners, I left my attendants and guards behind and arrived to meet him wearing plain attire. The hermit, an elderly man dwelling in a hut amongst the trees, was digging the earth when I arrived. He saluted me but continued with his work. Despite explaining my reason for being there, he persisted with his digging. Observing his exhaustion, I offered my aid, and he accepted, allowing me to take over with the spade.

After several hours of toil, I posed my inquiries again, but the hermit remained silent. As the sun began to set, I considered departing. Suddenly, the hermit gestured towards a man with a beard running towards us.

2. Imagine you are the hermit. Write briefly the incident of your meeting the king. Begin like this:

One day I was digging in my garden. A man in ordinary clothes came to see me. I knew it was the king….

Ans. One day I was digging in my garden. A man in ordinary clothes came to see me. I knew it was the king still despite recognizing him as the king, I acted as though I did not know who he was. He had come to ask me three questions, he said.

I welcomed him and resumed my digging. As I grew weary, the king noticed and offered to assist me. I accepted his offer and handed him my spade.

After working together to dig two plots of land, the king posed his questions again. Once more, I feigned ignorance and asked if he was tired and wished for me to take over. But he declined and carried on with the task.

As evening drew near, it seemed as though he was ready to depart. Just then, we noticed a man hurrying towards us.
