Chapter-Notes on ‘The Fight’ by Ruskin Bond
Summary
Ranji, a young boy, had recently come to Rajpur and had no friends. One hot summer day, while wandering in the forest, he discovered a beautiful, clear pool. He was very happy and began to visit it daily to swim and relax.
One day, another boy named Suraj came there. Suraj was strong and proud. He claimed that the pool belonged to him and challenged Ranji. Both boys refused to leave, and soon a fight broke out. They hit and struggled with each other, but neither of them won. Tired and injured, they decided to continue the fight the next day.
That evening, both boys thought about the fight. The next day, although Ranji felt weak and tired, he went back to the pool because he did not want to accept defeat. This time, instead of fighting, they began to talk. Ranji showed his skill in swimming and diving, which impressed Suraj. Suraj, who was strong but did not know how to swim properly, asked Ranji to teach him.
Slowly, their anger disappeared. They started appreciating each other’s strengths. Suraj offered to make Ranji strong like him, while Ranji agreed to teach him swimming. In this way, their rivalry turned into friendship.
In the end, both boys became good friends and shared the pool happily. The story shows that understanding and friendship are better than fighting.
